The German group Daimler will give up the manufacture of luxury brand Maybach, due to losses incurred and very small sales. Daimler had hoped that sales would reach 1,000 cars per year, but last year they reached only 200 units. In 2013 Maybach cars will be replaced by more expensive models from Mercedes-Benz S-Class. General Director of Daimler, Dieter Zetsche, said that internal discussions have shown that “the chances of selling the Mercedes brand is better than the Maybach.” The strategy for 2013 will consist of increasing the number of S-Class models from 3 to 6, to increase sales volume, as they hope to double it to 80.000 cars per year.
